Flexible, digital systems for rail-based transport in growth regions (FlexiDug)

With the phase-out of coal mining expected in 2038, the Lausitz region is undergoing significant infrastructure change. The project Flexible, digital systems for rail-bound traffic in growth regions (FlexiDug) has set itself the goal of carrying out an analysis of the existing as well as deconstructed infrastructures and, based on this, developing a conceptual design of future traffic routes.

Within the framework of this research project, data acquisition and processing will be digitized and automated in order to ensure monitoring of the condition of railroad lines and to enable maintenance tasks as well as automation of traffic planning. One sub-project, together with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, deals with the development of sensor networks to secure the railroad infrastructure in the former mining regions. The focus of the TU-Chemnitz is on the requirements analysis, the formal protocol design including the dimensioning of the application-specific sensor nodes, the simulation and verification of the sensor network.
